Hello, Alisha Magwood ! I'm a newbie still, so not a ton of advice here. Just some words of support! I used to be a nurse, then a nurse practitioner, so yeah, it's all really new to be thinking like a business owner rather than an employee. (Did my undergrad studies in NC.) Real estate brings a whole different set of lingo and technical info to learn, but hey, that's what you had to do when you became a nurse! And you sound like you're off to a great start. Best wishes in the journey! You've got this!

@Ian Ippolito Thanks for this reply to @Mohammad Sheatt's question, especially with updated info since your last official writeup of the top crowdfunding sites. I am very interested in this model, mostly because my husband is very interested in it. I still have my heart set on some rental properties eventually, but I can also see the  value in crowdfunding as a general diversification of our overall investment portfolio. I may try this route while I get educated enough to convince my husband to do something we have more control over.

Maybe @Sterling White should talk to you about getting his company reviewed for your spreadsheet! :)

I agree with @Jack Butala and also welcome you to BP! I love Chicago. :) Excited to hear more from you about Origin, as my husband and I are trying to feel out our place in the REI world, and he is most comfortable with a crowdfunding investment model. I still have dreams of acquiring multiple rental properties for cash flow and equity, but we may start with crowdfunding while I get more educated on what it would take for me to spearhead a more active investment strategy.

Best wishes in your new position! Keep in touch!

Hello Katherine Martin and another "welcome to BP" from me, too! I'm an aspiring investor living in Bellevue, currently in the research phase. Best wishes to you on your journey! Perhaps we'll see each other at a local meet up one of these times.

Thanks, Joseph Conrey ! I always appreciate a bullet point summary. May I suggest you upload this to the Tools>Fileplace section of the website, so more people might see it? Best wishes!

Thanks, @Son-Hsiung Riu. So you are setting up a JV for each property purchased? I like this approach, for future consideration. I need to have more to bring to the table first, but I also would rather own smaller shares of more projects, as long as the deals and partners were reasonable to start with, of course!

Gorgeous, @Steve S.! Is your client on BP? Sure would like to congratulate him personally! If not, please pass on my congrats for a beautiful remodel and a beautiful deal. :)

SON-HSIUNG RIU Hello! from an aspiring investor in Bellevue. I'm wondering what you had I mind when you said: "I'm building my network of friends / families who are inclined to invest in real estate but not necessarily interested in actively engaging / managing properties." I personally am very interested in rental properties, but my husband wants the most passive investments possible, so we are feeling out where our mutual comfort zone is on making our first real estate investment (beyond our primary residence, which we are still paying off.) So your statement made me wonder what kind of investor you are seeking, and for what. Best wishes!

I'm thinking the same thing about taking the real estate course that brokers take around here, @Fe Kelly! I'm glad you found BP and I wish you well.

I grew up in Greensboro, so couldn't resist saying hi to an NC Newbie! Go get 'em!

@Alex M. Congrats! And definitely thanks for sharing your inspirational story and the advice that helped you get started! Way to go!
