knob wiring is not a big issue unless the house is huge, How big is the house? , is the main and distribution breakers old as well? Do you have good attic or basement access? you might need 7K to 10K depending on what is needed. If you got it at a good price just move on with the repairs and don't let it affect your sleep. We all make mistakes here and there, you made the decision that some others only think about it. If you update the electrical get a certified electrician, you should pull a permit to help insurance and resale value. ( it is a very good upgrade ) good luck.

HI, like Mike McCarthy said a home inspector can help a lot or a contractor if you have one, check out NACHI.org you can find a good inspector in your area also for a fee you can look in to https://www.buildfax.com/ it is not the the most accurate but very good, not all county and cities are digital on permits so you might have to go to the city hall to look for permit history if any.

Check this website for cost or installation and repairs https://www.homewyse.com/services/cost_to_install_gas_furnace.html . why don't you try to re-negotiate your price?

What is the issue with Insurance, here in south florida homeowners ins range between 3000 to 6000. If its uninsurable is a different thing.

HI I am a Home inspector in South Florida, you can look at https://www.nachi.org/ or https://www.homeinspector.org/ (ASHI) this are the biggest association in the nation, but you are asking for home inspector, right , not Code inspectors, big difference. You can get a lot of information from this 2 websites. Good luck. you can reach out to me with any question you might have.
