@Karen L., welcome to BP! I might be bias :), but I think Portland metro area is still a good place to invest on the west coast, much cheaper relative to other major west coast cities like SF, LA and Seattle. especially for appreciation, but harder if you are going for cash flow. I suggest expand the area you look at beyond Hillsdale. Do you have a specific type of investment properties you looking for? Let us know your goal, and I think some Portland folks can give you some suggestions.

Thanks

Welcome Stefan! You are at the right place to learn about RE investment. As you already discovered, lots of resources here, I think the more valuable resource here is the connection with local experts and simillar minded RE investor, some have decades of experience that they willing to share. Enjoy!

Welcome @Charlotte Trusty!

You are right, there are sure alot of things to learn here on the site, but what I find most amazing is the people here. Most are very willing to share experience and also eager to learn, a very good community here.

I am a RE agent also, and hopefully we can work together in the future. Can you send me your website, so I can take a look at your work?

Thanks

Welcome Bob! Lots to learn here, and lots of friendly people. We just had a meetup this week, and many are willing to share their experience. I am in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area too. Right now, I am part time real estate agent and investor.

Not sure on the overall economy, but if the stock market is a reflection of the economy, then i think we still have a few more years of good time left, we might have another crash then hit all time high again, or going straight to all time high. After this multi decade long term bull train ends.... lord knows whats going to happen... personally... some of you might laugh.. but I buy physical gold and silver and mining stocks. Mining stocks already up 60% this year. :)

Ok, back to real estate.

@Robert Laird I am still waiting for you to send a good deal my way.. :) Hopefully I can meet with more wholesalers during the meetup next week. I am on a mailing list of a wholesaler, but the price they asking for is quite high, not too much difference from MLS, so my feeling is I am not really getting a deal.

For dealing with wholesalers, is it normal to ask how much they got the property for and how much they are charging for their fees?
