That’s great! Thanks for the replying @Shiloh Lundahl, here's what I'm looking for: good areas to invest, good resources to find properties, general information about the buying process, any realtors and other locals that can help, and expected returns in the area for STR.

Hey All,

I'll be traveling to Costa Rica for a wedding and wanted to explore the market while I'm visiting. Does anyone have experience with buying rental or STR property there or have a connection there that I could speak to?

Hey @Melissa D.

Welcome! House hacking is a great way to begin investing, especially in a high priced point area like Denver. I house hack myself and help other house hackers buy in the area. Our team holds a meetup every month that is for investors and house hackers! Happy to share the information. We also have a virtual mastermind call this Tuesday.

The bigger pockets deal analysis tool and rent estimator tool are great to help you analyze deals. I would also check out my lead agent's book about house hacking - https://store.biggerpockets.com/products/the-house-hacking-s...

Would be happy to chat more about your goals and where we could help!

Hey @Zachary Berenson, I'd recommend Mike Stone with Megastar - he's local, works with investors, and is really helpful in planning ahead to help you achieve your goals to buy multiple properties. I'll DM you with his info.

@Justin Sherman, sounds like a great property! It depends if the downstairs is permitted as an ADU, zoning, and what municipality it's located in. You still may be able to convert the garage.

@Justin Sherman, this market is tough to make the numbers work because of what you mentioned - high rates and prices still rising. Consider the opportunity to add bedrooms in the home and try to rent out each room when you leave - being in a desirable area, you could average $900/room. With a 6 bedroom, you would be cash flowing (or at least breaking even). If you are investing for the long game, I say go for it - we have to be creative in this market to make things pencil.

@Kevin Bartel - welcome to BP! There are several options out there to get you started. House hacking is a great way to started, but there are many other investment opportunities to get involved in. I suggest attending a real estate event and meeting other investors to see what other opportunities are out there and see what others have done!
