This is not legal advice: check your state's laws. In North Carolina, if someone performs a home inspection, they must be a state licensed home inspector. It varies by state. Check inspectorseek.com for InterNACHI-certified home Inspectors in your area, if you decide to go that route of course.

Welcome! I'd love to meet you at a meet up. I do rehab's, buying holds, and home inspections. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Welcome to BP and to investing in the Triangle. We inspect homes, and I invest in rehabs and rentals. The rentals in Raleigh can be pushed up pretty high, so you have to look harder to a true deal right now. Hope to see you around the meet ups!

Oh yeah, I should mention that my friend Trey Styron runs 78 West Home Inspections in Wilmington. He's a good guy. Track him down for lunch if you want to talk home inspections.

A lot of it depends on your contract and situation, as others have said. If you want a licensed inspector, go to InspectorSeek.com.

I hear you. I wish I had started when I was 21! I would recommend house-hacking, buying a multi-family and living in one side. It teaches the starter steps of investing, managing, and upgrading properties with a fairly low up-front costs. Plus, your tenants pay your mortgage, allowing you to save that money for future investments. An alternative would be fix and flips in the Clayton area. Let's talk or get together if you have more questions.
