G'day @Jack Martin.  Well done on the residency mate!  You're right, Sydney is extremely expensive.  If you're starting out in NSW, have a look at some of the regional town centers.  You should be able to save a bit of money, and whilst I'm not entirely sure there may be some government programs to incentivize relocating to the regions.

Don't forget to factor in your hotel quarantine stay upon arrival, likely $2,500-$3,000 AUD.
