Intro from new member in the Denver area...
Hey everyone! Glad to be a new member on BP. I actually met Josh at a networking event in boulder when he was launching this site several years ago. We've been connected on linkedin and I see his posts there. It just took me a while to get here.
Anyway, I own a software consulting business that has done well over the past few years, so I've got some liquid capital that I'd like to invest. And being in the tech business, I've gone through the ups and downs of the stock market (was actually a multi millionaire ON PAPER for a while till the dot com crash). So, I'm done w/ the stock market.
I bought my 1st investment house in Feb. this year. It's a 3br, 2ba, 1400 sq. ft. vacation rental on 1 acre in Teton County (Driggs), Idaho. About a half hour from Jackson, WY. Mostly b/c I like to fly fish and ski up there, and also b/c it was a homepath (fannie may) steal I couldn't pass on.
RE: Denver, I'm getting ready to stick my toe in the proverbial waters of REI, probably fix n flip vs. landlording at this point. My family owned apt. buildings and I wasn't crazy about that side of the biz. Plus I don't have the capital for holding more than maybe 1 or 2 properties at this point.
I'll plan on attending the group event in December, and hopefully get to know some of the Denver area community. Also, I might be interested in partnering / joining forces on projects if the match and deal is right. I have decent construction experience having worked in the "trades" when I was in my teens and through college. I've finished basements, etc. (no electrical and limited plumbing).
That's about it for now. I'm looking forward to learning about the biz; and have already spent many hours browsing the forums and reading articles. Chao.
Welcome!! I'm in Aurora as well. That place in Idaho sounds nice, good work getting out there and picking it up!

Thanks Anson. Looking forward to the group meeting in December.
Welcome to BP Denver. Sounds like you have a good background in RE. Look forward to seeing you in Dec.
Welcome to the site @Evan Hamilton, thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself. Congrats on the first deal and I can't wait to hear about the second one. You seem like you're in a prime position to make some big things happen, sweet!
See you around the site.
@ Bill and @ Mehran Thanks for the notes. Looking forward to learning more.
@Evan Hamilton Looks like you have a good start - there are a lot of people in Denver to network with.
@Evan Hamilton you come to best place to learn real estate
investing and not to mention business strategies.
Midwest welcome to BP.
Greetings Evan! Welcome to the site... one of the best resources out there on REI. I'm in Aurora, CO as well... maybe we can connect at the next Colorado get -together.
You're in a great place to learn. Denver and Colorado Springs (Where I was) is a great place to learn from others. Attend as many REI meetings as you can, it will pay off. I'm in a new market now and from attending so many meetings I've got an upper edge in this new market where I am at now.
Although both cities are very competitive use that to your advantage! Find investors who are involved and active and are looking for help. You've got yourself a great opportunity to learn from many of the active investors here on BP.
Good luck!
Welcome @Evan Hamilton! Your vacation rental sounds awesome. That entire area is just beautiful. Good luck with your ventures in Denver.@Evan Hamilton
thanks for the greetings Adrian, Jenkins, Ben, Steven, & Michelle!
i'm looking forward to getting involved w/ the denver community and soaking up some knowledge.
@michelle - yes, teton county is awesome. and much more affordable than the other side of the pass (jackson, wy). the only issue is the 8 hr. drive...
@steven - good luck in MN. I lived in Lakeville for a couple of years a long time ago and enjoyed it (minus the cold and snow)
@Evan Hamilton - welcome and congrats on your 1st investment purchase. I got one of my homes from Home Path too and definitely agree it's a great resource.
on a side note, does anyone know any local (denver area) wholesalers that they'd recommend?

Hi Evan,
Just joined from Castle Rock. Where did you find the details on the Denver event?
Thanks!

the ones with the best deals of course ;o)
i'm in aurora, so maybe SE denver area (don't want projects in golden, boulder, etc) and not high end stuff due to budgets starting out.
get a meetup.com account. Go on there, search for real estate within 15 miles of Denver and you should find a bunch of meet ups. @Travis Sperr has a great one with Pine Financial. Don't forget about the number of meetups in Co Springs as well.
My recommendation is to go to as many as you can as quickly as you can. You'll quickly realize, by the depth of the questions asked, who the big players are and which meetups are the ones to not miss.

Hey @Evan Hamilton Thanks for jumping in and introducing yourself! Looks like you have some good experience with real estate! Don't be afraid to jump in and help answer questions or ask some of your own.
Oh- last thing: Have you setup your "Keyword Alerts" yet? If not - definitely add some. I'd recommend adding "Aurora" so you'll be notified when people talk about your local area.
Welcome Evan!

Welcome Evan!
Thanks Brandon. RE: experience, not so much - other than the 5 houses i've personally owned and my new vacation rental. My family owned apt buildings / complexes (my grandfather built them along w/ hotels, etc. back in the day) and my dad was an attorney who dealt w/ some RE. I enjoyed my first podcast today (Anson from here in Denver) and learned a lot.
