@Todd Powell Although painful for that first week, it sounds like your new job is a dream come true with it being in the real estate industry and having a supportive CEO. Almost sounds a bit like a blessing in disguise! Congratulations on the new job and your success in real estate!

This is both hilarious and a bit disturbing with some of the serious comments. Thanks for the humor @Jim K.

@Jenine Civil That is what I was afraid of with Big Bear, I think it has probably been oversaturated for awhile now. Good luck to you and hope to hear about your successful foray into the STR business in the near future!

Hi @Jenine Civil

I had also looked into STR there and didn't think it would be a good investment. I grew up visiting Idyllwild with my family every year and continued visiting as an adult until I moved out of state. Although I love Idyllwild and it will always hold special memories for me, I just don't think there is a lot to do there besides hiking and visiting the local shops. Have you considered Big Bear? At least you would have the ski resorts there (and in Running Springs) and I think BB offers mountain biking on the ski trails in the summer. There is also the lake and people can rent Jeeps for four-wheeling so a lot more activities that would possibly draw more visitors and for a longer stay. Of course, the prices in BB could be cost-prohibitive, I have not looked at that market.

Good luck!

@Brian Ellwood Thank you for your post which has started this conversation. I really enjoyed the step-by-step reasoning you laid out. It is refreshing as @Account Closed pointed out and I am anticipating reading many more interesting responses. I am not a big player by any means, but my investing has enabled me to cut my full-time job to 20 hours per week 4 years ago, which completely changed my lifestyle to one I truly enjoy living. My investing journey isn't over yet, I don't know my exact next step as some ideas have been put on hold this year, but I know what it isn't, and that is to attain 100 doors. That is not something that interests me at all even though in the beginning I felt inadequate if that wasn't the end goal. Although many times I feel I am in the minority here on BP as far as my style of investing, I am eternally grateful for finding this site many years ago for what some of its valuable members have taught me.

@Amanda N. I am sorry to hear that but happy you at least got your initial investment back. Yes, definitely a good yet painful lesson. This has taught me what additional measures to take to protect myself when lending. I have some things in the works on this deal and will update this post when I have a resolution.
