We recently purchased a 4-unit rental property in Cleveland and the basement serves as the communal laundry room. 

My daughter, however, lives with communal w/d for a few years now because the unit is affordable for where she wants to live, and she usually just saves up her laundry, visits family and does her laundry while visiting as she is lucky to have that option.  

Also, depending on the set up of the property itself, landlords may have some utility expense for communal areas.  

It is kind of a communal situation.

I want to build a 300 unit college dorm style building, with tiny rooms and communal bathrooms, as an affordable rental for millennials instead of moving back in with their parents. 

I think that there are so many valuable lessons to be learned in communal type living.

You could feel the swelling of pride amongst ourselves as we marched with the communal understanding that yes, we were bad MFers, we were the best.

This will lead to a large communal area on the first floor and seperate enterances to each apartment.

If the HoA is basically gone then good luck trying to get communal funds to pay for the roof if a limb falls or brushes it to the point of damage.
