I would stay away from the thinner stuff, as the grout lines could show through, but if you had a thicker product, I don't see why it would be an issue.

I think most AC5 is 10mm or thicker and it will probably last longer but any grade 12mm should do pretty well.

We Used Metal closet rods and the end braces were thicker so the pole would stay well supported on the ends.I also heard a great tip and have used it forever,, don't put carpet in closets, use tile, easier to clean, and whatever you stack on the floor is stable, not cushioned by the carpet and will stay put.
