Duplex flooring carpet or laminate?

I usually have to change the carpet every other tenant if not every tenant.  A side averages 70 square yards and my costs usually run about $900 installed.  I'm wondering if laminate flooring might last longer and be more economical?  Any one have experience with this?  Thanks
