This just happened to my family today, we live at the end of a street and they stole our magnolia trees in the late night before 3am-10pm and sadly I was awake doing hw at that time and heard nothing because I was so focused, even though my room is right next to the scene, the trees are on the side of the house my dog doesn't sleep on so she would've never noticed any suspicious sounds during the act.
