Advice on First Time Auction Attending

Hi Everyone. I'm a newbie to the REI scene. I'm not looking to buy immediately but I'm doing my research. There happens to be an auction about 2 blocks down the street from me today at 5pm. I would like to go to this auction with no intentions to buy but rather to see how it all works.

Is this ok to do?  Can anyone offer advice on how to approach this or what I should be looking for during the auction?

Thanks in advance
