Post: How to repay an agent who helped us purchase an off market deal

My wife and I closed on a duplex for investment today. It was purchased off market but we had help from her Aunt who is a real estate agent. While she volunteered to help, we would like to repay the service in some way. We found the property through a personal contact and did most of the day to day work to get it to close ourselves. Her advice was invaluable and she made a few phone calls for us as well. Should we pay her some sort of consulting fee? What is the best way to repay her and express our gratitude/compensate her for her time?

Thanks in advance,

Winn and Kaitlin Merwin

@James Barnhart ,

There are a few local banks in the area I plan to reach out to and see if we can develop a relationship. I plan to "wow" them into business with me with my good looks and Tuxedo. HAHA. I will let you know how that works out.

@Svetlana Foley

Great point. Do you believe I need a banker where I am buy properties 2 hours away from where I live that I can call or one that is local who I can walk-in and talk with?

@Patti Robertson ,

Good thought. I had not considered a regional bank that would cover both areas. I will look into that. Thanks for the tip.

Hello,

My wife and I currently have one SFR in Augusta and are under contract on a duplex in Augusta, GA. This is our "farm" area. We recently moved from Augusta, GA to Braselton, GA, which is 2 hours away. We plan to keep investing in Augusta. We are in the process of starting our small business and are not sure where to look for a portfolio lender/local bank to partner with to start our business.

Should we find a bank close to were we live or focus on a bank that knows the area we plan to invest in for years to come? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Winn and Kaitlin Merwin

Hey @Brandon Sizemore

Welcome to bigger pockets. My wife and I own a rental in the pendleton king Park area of augusta and are under contract on a duplex in the Hill area of Augusta. Let me know if you have any questions about those areas.  We are no longer local but within a 2 hour drive. We have not yet made it to any of the meetings.  Please let me know how it goes and we're here if you would like to talk.

Winn

@John Mocker

Thanks for the info. Ill shop them around. Not planning on flipping anytime soon but good information to have. The umbrella info will likely be helpful as we scale. Thanks again.
