@Wayne Brooks   @Sandy Gabin
Hi All,

I asked three companies to the site for inspection. None of them see any sign of active infestation but they all suggest me to do a full treatment no matter what. They all say that there's possible to have the colony under the ground or somewhere. All are recommending me to subscribe to their annual treatment/inspection after the first treatment.

I also found there is a split opinion among the companies about the treating method.

1. liquid Termidor® termiticide/insecticide termite treatment

$750/the first year; $75 annual inspection afterward

  1. 2. Sentricon baiting system
  2. Initial treatment 1-year (around $1000 or more); >$200/year afterwards

Each one claims that their method is the best way to treat termites. Some people also recommended this baiting system that is very cheap compared to what I was quoted for the above two methods:

Spectracide® Terminate® Termite Detection & Killing Stakes - 15 Pack
Model Number: HG-96115 Menards® SKU: 2637567 ---$50

What shall I do? Any suggestions from your experience? Thanks!

Lei

As you can see, termites can be incredibly destructive. $500 is nothing if you compare that to having the house fall down.

Shawn, that's a good price if it's only 500 range. I just talked to one guy who said no less than $950 ... I will talk to Black Dimond tomorrow to check them out. I will need at least a full inspection to see if it's still an active problem or not.

Jill, I am also wondering how I can tell if it's still active or not, just talked to the prior owner who said never had any bug problem in the last 5 years and he sprayed every year even for bed bugs. But he only owned it for last 5 years and not sure if there was termite treatment before.

Big question mark is how much of the framing needs to be replaced.

Thank you for the price tag... for treatment. Yep, have to check how much wood to replace, (:

Just had our house treated for termites. We were able to get it done for about $500, but prices can vary depending on the damange. Maybe try to find a local guy. They drilled a bunch of holes in the ground all the way around the house. We now have to keep up with the treatment by having it retreated every year for about $100/year. It's not a one time and done type of thing.

Thank you, James. Your price paid is very good, a quick search in my area (Indiana) shows a price of $1000 or more. And they just use a baiting system but not the liquid one into the soils.

Wayne, I thought the same, wish it was in the past. Thanks.

I would recommend you to call an expert on this because they can tell you where the root is. There is a possibility that there could be more but that is like opening up a can full of worms. It's your call at the end of the end of the day. It won't hurt to call a company and they can go in and also give you an estimate maybe? I know you will find a solution. Best to you!

sure, already calling for professionals.
