Thank you all. I am sorry that I couldn't reply to you earlier. Had some crazy days afterward and didn't have time to check BP.

@Charles Kao Thank you for all of your suggestions. I surely will talk to neighbors and they probably feel good about me turning a bad house into a desirable living space. I like/plan to buy houses which need a lot of work.

May I ask you how to cover the windows in the rehab stage? My houses need a lot of work and I don't think you mean putting on blinds. Can I just tape some newspapers onto the windows?

What is a POD? I searched online and find https://www.pods.com/storage-solutions/on-site-sel...

Not sure if this is what you mean. How much does it cost?

Thank you very much @Adonna Pruette ,  what you shared is terrific and I like your approaches and the carefulness! You are really a role model I should learn from in securing the rehabbing project.

For the motion detection light and alarm, could you please share more about which brand(s) you like?

Do you leave a radio on near the front door or both front and back door?

I don't like bad neighborhood either, but it's more and more difficult to find cash-flowing property in better areas nowadays.

Thanks again for your reply.

Thanks for sharing, @Matthew Paul, the neighborhood definitely counts. But I will certainly put on lights, radio too. They seem to be cheap and effective ways.

Thanks a lot, @Harry Gamble. Very good story and helpful suggestions. For the security alarm, I know Simplisafe doesn't need any contract, so you can stop anytime you want or transfer to another house easily even I haven't tried yet. I just wish their alarm sound can have an option for dog barking.

With respect to the neighbors, I also have concerns that telling them too much might have additional risk unless the neighborhood is a good one.

Thanks @Matthew Paul

Interesting idea. Don't know any alarm speaking human words. Which one do you use?

Among sirens, dog barking and "human words", I am not sure which is the best to deter intruders once the motion detector is triggered.  Has anybody seen statistics/articles about this topic?

Thanks, @Theresa Harris @Scott Scheel I will definitely ask neighbors. Do you bring some small gifts when you ask them to keep an eye for your properties? Any suggestions?

Not very good at talking with strangers. I should certainly practice this skill.

Just start to rehabbing and would like to know what is the most effective way to secure a vacant property in rehabbing stage. I read about the topics online and it seems that Dog, CCTV, light are useful. Without Wifi, a camera is not possible. I am thinking about the electronic dog barking alarm with motion detection but don't know what to choose. Any product recommendations? I don't see a product with real good reviews in Amazon.

Fake CCTV and fake Tv light are also considered. I plan to add them to the security package.

I know Simplisafe and might try one. However, I wonder what accessories do you choose? Is it really useful from your experience? Where can I find the promotion/discount code for Simplisafe? I remember the BP podcasts used to advertise it.

Thanks.

@Jon Davison, @Greg Dickerson, @Mihir Bhimaraju, thank you all! It seems we are all on the same page about the matter. Too expensive to build at the late cycle.
