My post was removed.... guess you can't post links?  Google Search FARInternational.  They are based in Medellin and help foreigners invest in properties in Colombia.  I'm currently in Bogota right now and love it here.  While there are certainly some issues with Colombia, I think the pro's outweigh the con's.  The negative perception has kept prices low, but things are changing and tourism is increasing year over year. 

@Keith Lyons, glad to hear it worked for you. Sometimes the investment in the education is the kick in the pants people need. 

I would imagine they have local people who oversee and help them run the properties.  

@Keith Lyons, did you start with no money because you dropped $20,000 on fortune builders?

@Nick Brown , I'm actually from Fort Myers and am currently living nomadically with no "set" home... I just put Fort Lauderdale because that's where I thought I'd end up.  I've lived all over Florida though from Sarasota/Tampa/Orlando and Miami.  

What group(s) do you suggest joining?  It is difficult to get honest reviews online as people buy or fake them.  Would be good to actually have someone give their honest opinion and suggestion.  

I will have to investigate more the areas and spend some time walking/driving neighborhoods.
