Getting more education on investing before starting out is always a good choice. This is a great place to accomplish this goal. Please check out the items under the "Education" tab above. In particular take advantage of the Ultimate Beginner's Guide. J. Scott's book "The Book on Flipping Houses" is a good place to start to learn about flipping.
@Dawn Oishi has lots of good advice on becoming a real estate agent. In addition to her comments I recommend reading the following:
These will all give you some perspective on what you need to know to be successful as an agent. Also talk to some brokers about their cost structures and expectations. FYI - some brokers don't want you to work for them part time.
Regarding flipping in North Texas I would say that it is possible, but fairly difficult to make a reasonable profit in the current local market. Do you know how you are going to source properties? Do you have a team to help you with the project - real estate agents, wholesalers, general contractor, property inspector, lender, etc.?
