Jon K. Thanks Jon! Did my @ work?

I'm on the hunt for a used unit. I'd prefer to save money now and have to pay again in the future rather than spend the 3900ish upfront for new. mck

Jerry, I am really interested in your answer. I didn't grasp until now that the Volcker types actually had the economy bite the bullet short term. I wonder what would have happened if the government had taken a similar action this go around.

I also didn't realize that FSLIC, the FDIC equivalent, went under during the S& L debacle.

What is my memory trying to tell me about Volcker and bricks? Do you remember some incident where builders threw bricks to protest?

Volcker and Greenspan seem to have opposite approval ratings. Am I correct in that Volcker had low approval in office but better later as history looks back.

By the way, I brought my typewriter to college and used my first computer my 4th year. Thanks. mck

I just found out that I have a fan motor and compressor problem with my two 29 year old HVAC units. I purchased the property a few years back and am grateful the units have lasted as long as they have.

The fan motors and compressors are not working as of today.

I have a quote for a new split unit at the price of $3937 for a Carrier 2 1/2 ton.

Would you put in a new or try to locate a used unit? Can you get a used split unit? Would you get a split unit or put in 2 used units, one per floor?

Any ideas of where to locate some good used units?

Thanks for your thoughts. mck

I agree with J regarding the issues with your renovation crew.

I wanted to confirm that I meant to get it reinspected after you do the repairs suggested in the report. Good luck. mck

I've done a re-inspection before and was only charged $50. You might ask the same inspector to re-inspect for a nominal fee. mck

Thanks Jon! None of the houses in our first neighborhood had garages because of the high interest rates. Was this Volker's (spelling) time? Wasn't there an incident with bricks? mck
