@Russel McMillan welcome aboard!  I am a Detroit investor and have been quite successful from overseas, so it can be done without living there.  I can imagine though it will be easier for you once you move there.  As with any investing, its all about knowledge, due diligence and support.  BP has proven to be one of the best support sites I have seen, so much knowledge here and information & tools.
