Welcome Don!  The U.S. market is certainly a different market from Australia but can be very lucrative even for us as foreign investors.  I am also an aussie and have been investing in the US now for over 10 years.  If i can help at all, let me know!

Quote from @Aarati Shrestha:

Hi I am Aarati, I am from Australia. I am here after reading a book on “how to invest in real estate” by joshua and brandon.
i have never owned any properties so far and i am willing to enter into real estate world this year. I am very confused about if my 1st property should be the home that i live in or should I buy an investment property? I am excited to learn about real estate and i want some suggestions to guide me on how to start. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated and thank you for taking time to read my post.

 Hi Aarati,

Are you thinking of investing in the U.S. market or your first property in Australia?  Yell out if i can help, i have been investing in the States for over 10 years now, from Australia if that is something you were thinking of for an investment.

Quote from @Rajesh Rajendran:

I am an Indian passport holder, living in Australia and have been in the U.S for 9 years with a valid SSN and credit score.

I recently closed on a property for around ~130k(fully paid) and I am interested to know if I could get HELOC on this property being a foreign resident?

Hi  Rajesh, if you are looking for something outside the conventional lending, i would reach out to @Michal Liviatan Carpenter from Lendai.  They specialise in loans for foreign investors and could certainly look to help

Cheers

Lindsay

Congratulations @Robert Bird!  What a great opportunity :)  I live in Australia and would be curious which game show you won!?  Not that I guess I watch a lot of television, hehe

Investing in the U.S from AU is certainly possible.  The key is  getting a good team on the ground in the area that you are looking to invest in.  As a U.S. citizen it will open a number of doors for you that we, as non resident, foreign aliens don't have.  Access to funding etc will be advantageous to you.

Just make sure to do your due diligence on the people you bring onto your team (realtors, contractors, Property Mangers etc) as you would the properties and areas themselves!

Best of luck!

Cheers

Lindsay

@Tanya Solomon I will preface this by saying I'm a Aussie, but I see what you mean Tanya and I feel it is more about how we are interpreting the words.

Its rare in AU that a contractor would offer to 'help you out', they certainly will do the work.  But I feel (and this is a gross generalisation) that in the U.S when they say they can help you, it means that they can do what you need... not that they are doing you a favour, which is how we as Aussies, and possibly you, are hearing.

Although having said that, from my younger days in retail and hospitality, we always asked a customer if we could 'help' them LOL

But I certainly see what you mean regarding the phrase

Hi @Zack George, yes as a US citizen, you should have a lot more lending options that we as foreign investors have.  Most private equity lenders would work with you, just need to be careful of their fees and charges.

Not so sure about the banks, most require you to be living in the States, but maybe some will be more lenient?

Managing the properties from afar all comes down to having a good team on the ground where you invest.  You certainly don't want to be doing it yourself, need good property mangers and realtors to assist

Cheers
