The first meeting of the new decade for the Central Ohio Investor Network is Tuesday, January 21st at Smokehouse Brewery at 1130 Dublin Road.
We will be adding two new segments to our meetings in 2020 - Success Stories and a Have/Want Session. Before our speaker, we will hear a positive story from someone in our group that was possible because of COIN. If you have a story you would like to share, please let us know!
After our speaker, we will have a 15 minute "Have/Want Session". Our goal is to increase the focus of the networking in our group and we hope this session will help facilitate introductions and conversation. The session will allow those who are interested to briefly (30 second limit) address the group and say one thing they have to offer and one thing they are looking for. We do not expect everyone to speak, but this will hopefully help everyone find someone to connect with during the networking session. A few examples of statements that people could make:
- "I am looking for a BRRRR opportunity in a B class neighborhood and I have experience in passive investing through syndications that I can share with people."
- "I am looking for opportunities to lend private money and I can offer mortgage counseling and lending."
- "I am a beginner and would like to hear how others have gotten started while working a 9-5 job and I am a financial advisor so I can help people with 401k rollovers after they quit their jobs and do real estate full time."
The speakers for our meeting will be Sarah and Nick Karakaian. 8 years ago, Sarah and Nick had never owned property. Nick finally convinced Sarah to read Rich Dad, Poor Dad in 2014. Since then they have:
- Purchased property in one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country, NYC. And on an Actor's and Space Planner's income no less.
- Started to leverage Airbnb in 2012; before it was cool. The income they made from their basement suite more than covered their NYC mortgage.
- Landed themselves on an 8-episode series on HGTV called Beach Flip.
- Started a construction and design business called Nestrs, LLC. They would design and completely remodel NYC spaces with their own two hands.
- Doubled the value of the NYC property in four years time by house hacking, sold it, and, after traveling the country in their RV to find the perfect market to invest, they took their profits to Columbus, OH, where they knew no one, and settled down in September 2017.
- They purchased a fourplex in the 5th by Northwest neighborhood and a single-family in Schumacher Place. The fourplex consists of all Airbnbs and Sarah + Nick are currently working on making their Schumacher property the first ADA compliant Airbnb in Columbus.
- After hiding away in their fourplex for a year in 2018 as they fixed up one unit and moved on to the next they decided to start up their business again in January of 2019. Since they didn't know anyone in town they leveraged their growing Instagram account to attract clients. They've already built it up to a six-figure business and can't wait to see what 2020 will bring!
Please try to arrive around 6 pm to network and order food and drinks. The speaker will start at 6:30 pm. As a reminder, we get the room for free, so please help us keep it "free" by spending some money! After the Have/Want Session, feel free to move into the space behind the meeting room - this will hopefully reduce the networking noise!!
We hope to see you there!
