Depending on your remaining entitlement, you can purchase another home with a VA loan. I purchased three with VA entitlement. Some lenders may require a qualifying reason for the purchase and others will not.

Welcome to BP!

I recently retired from the Air Force after 30 years and I own four properties. Three are with my VA loan. Using your VA loan entitlement is also a great way to get started in real estate.

I wish you all the best in your investing journey.

Congrats to you! I just retired from the Air Force. Have you checked the SkillBridge website for real estate brokerages? I know I’ve seen a couple on the site that offer opportunities. I would recommend conducting a search and finding the opportunities there. It may take a while, but keep at it. It will work out.

As your first investment, I recommend waiting until you get back to the states. You can use your VA loan at that time.

I'm active duty Air Force with four properties. Three are with the VA loan.

Take your time. Real estate investing is a long game.

I wish you all the best.

I appreciate the insight. When you used the VA home loan for those properties was it a hassle with the VA to keep using it on one property after another?
No. As long as you have remaining entitlement, the process is about the same. Some lenders will ask for a qualifying event like a marriage, divorce, or move to another location. Some won’t.

Why wait a couple of years? Read some books about house hacking and buy something now. You can rent out the spare rooms to roommates to build experience and save more money for your next investment.

Im saving up for at least 20% down. The area I'm in is very rural so id have to develop a plot from the ground up and have a lot of up front costs id imagine.

Saving is never a bad idea. Check on a USDA loan.
