@Connor Sweeney Awesome to hear that you want to start so young! I myself worked on different ways to earn money when I was in high school. Wish I would have saved more and payed attention more but thats why you're reaching out to fellow BP members!

I would say start with building your credit. Being only 17 you're still young and I would imagine not have any credit build up so you would have a hard time finding a lender. Having a credit card and paying it off at the end of the month is a start. Listening to the podcast helps alot if you want insight on how to do certain flips and when it comes to renovating.

Everyone I have ever talked to or listened talk about real estate says that what sets successful people against those who are not, is actually going for it. Seems like you're on the right track! Good Luck and welcome to BP!

@Kurt Stein I've been looking at multi family homes but it doesn't seem they're many out there that fit my area or what I am actually looking for. Reason for multi family is because I'd love to house hack. I have found a couple SF homes that intrigue me. I have been looking in the Arlington/Atlantic beach area.

Mitchlyn Davis that's awesome news a little weight lifted off my shoulder. I've been searching everywhere and couldn't find a multi family that fits my requirements. Knowing that a realtor will help, helps a lot! Thank you for the info

Jeff Riber I've been looking for reasonable priced MF and for the life of me can't find them in the Arlington area. Everything seems to be on the west side of Jax, which would be quite the drive to work. And suggestions on locating?

@Chris Seveney Thats good advice, it is in a lower income area so it makes sense! Thanks for that.

@Account Closed Killeen is a big military town so there will always be renters there. Thats why I would like to get some units in the area.

Well as the title states. I'm moving to Jacksonville/Atlantic Beach area. I've already been looking at houses and to your suggestion what is to much for a beginning venture? I've read a bunch of books and what to look for, and I know what I would like. Speaking numbers in general I basically want to house hack. And do some renovations. Do the brrr effect basically. Process. I'm going to use the VA loan. Should I start that process now? Does one have personal experience with using this type of loan where to go through? Price. If it's profitable what's a good price with someone thats not going to be putting a DP down and has little cash equity. I can look online, but would a realtor help at all? Thank you all!

Alright BP! I'm going to lay out all the numbers and the circumstances. This is a 4plex, there all 1 bed/1bath. No central a/c. (Rent from $275-325/mo) fully rented ($1,180 which would be 295 a unit.) 3 are currently rented, 1 isn't. Plans are buy and renovate the one unit that is currently vacant. Rent it out. Then refinance. (BRRR) He's offering owner finance for 69k which I feel like he'd take a lower price if I financed myself. Question is though how do you finance when being far away from the property. Do I get local banks here? I'm stationed away from the property as it is back home. I do have my brother in law interested in helping out with the property and being apart of the team. I haven't checked out the property yet, as this is my first time buy so I'm just asking opinions. I don't know precisely what needs to be renovated. Thanks!

Ive been listening to the podcast for a couple years now and I love hearing everyone success story. I am in the military and I am young so I do not have alot of capitol. I would like to know from someone thats 22-23 where do you start. I know im aloud a VA loan and I could use that on a mutli family but I have to live in that house for a year, Im more looking into being a part of a team but from afar since I will be moving alot. My overall goal is to make as much as I make now if not more. By the age of 30 I would like to have enough income coming in form real estate that my job in the military is just for fun since I enjoy it so much. Im just reaching out since I have been off for so long, I am willing to learn, so if anyone wants to take a young buck under there wing and learn tricks of the trade I would be more than open to it!! Thank you all.

Im aware there is alot of people that post similiar things but I want it more personable to me.

thanks for the welcome @Cory Mccarthy I guess I'll need to reevaluate where I am looking. I'm currently in Panama City, fl. The housing market down here is really pricey due to a prime a vacation spot so I might just have to wait till I PCS next year and save till then. Thank you for all the information!
