Thank for the @'ing help. I'm very tech savvy but for some reason it wasn't popping up.
Anyways, the duplex(House Hacking route) sounds very interesting and I will definitely be looking into that today. Also, will be researching the FHA loan process. Gracias.
Great tips, I need to step my book and CD game up asap. Also, will be looking for another REI group around town. I currently am a member of Lifestyles Unlimited but have only used my membership for info thus far.

Thank you all for your responses. Cory, About the networking events... I've actually joined Lifestyles Unlimited and have gone to one class so far. Seems like a good way to network with like minded individuals but I'm not quite sold on there model just yet. Have you heard of them? and if so, what are your thoughts about them?
Jeff, Thank you very much... I actually never have thought about the duplex route and renting out the other. I will definitely look into it first thing in the morning and try and try to figure out how realistic that is.
Edward, thanks a lot... I have read Rich Dad Poor Dad already (will def be reading again) but haven't touched the others yet. It's ironic how accurate you are about the first people reaching out to me with a get rich quick scheme. :) It has happened already.
Again thank you to all that have responded. I highly appreciate all of the info and will for sure be reaching out if I have more questions in the future(which is very probable)...

Hello everyone, I'm pretty new to BiggerPockets. This is actually my very first post. I've just been reading forums, researching, reading more forums, researching x10...
To get straight to the point, I want to start investing in real estate. I just don't know the route I need to take when it comes to getting started. I'm 27 years old, father, husband and basically reality is hitting me right in my face. I have a 2 year old daughter and another child on the way so I just want to make sure my family is able to live comfortable in the future. I've always been interested in real estate, obviously I've just never made a move. My credit is pretty good, 4k in school loans remaining, currently renting an apartment here in Houston and no other debt.
I'm thinking I can get started in a single family rental and just go from there. I know nothing about how the loans and mortgages work :/... trying to learn as much as possible.
Any suggestions/info/advice ect would be great...
Thank you
