Welcome to BP and good luck on your first investment property. What neighborhoods/parts of Houston are you considering?

Thank you very much for your input.  I'm Actually 30 pages into "The Millionaire RE Investor" so I guess I'm on the right track.  Thanks again.

@Michael Woodward

Hello there Michael. I see that you got started in REI this way and I feel like this is the route I would like to take as well. I just don't think I would flip it but turn it into a rental. Right now it's Myself, lovely wife, 2 1/2 year old daughter and another girl on the way in December. Do you by any chance have any main tips or pointers you could shoot my way that would help me out with getting started? I currently rent an apartment right now and feel like I'm wasting my time with it. I'm still new to RE so I hope I'm even saying this right but.. I plan on living in it for a year or so, fix it up and pull the equity out and purchase another sfh.

thank you

@Matthew Ward

Hey Matthew, I'm just curious if you've made a move yet?  If so could you share some details?

thanks

@Sarah Grise

I'm definitely looking for that freedom to break free of the 40+ hour work week and being stuck in a cubicle(which I'm in currently as I'm responding).  Thank you very much for the response.  It really just inspires me more to get out there and get going.  I'm actually talking with a lender today to see what they can do for me.

Thanks a lot.

Hello @Sarah Grise

I have a feeling my wife and I are in the same situation as you and your husband were in. We are in the very early stages of REI and are currently renting an apartment. We feel like owning a home to live in is the only way to really get going. I'm curious how the HELOC process was and if you would recommend someone else doing the same thing. We are down here in the Houston, TX market. I was initially going to purchase a home for about 100K, fix it up slowly to gain equity and pull that equity out somehow and purchase another house to move into, while making the initial one a rental... but I see that you guys just stayed in the initial house and purchased homes to rent out. How long did you all wait until you used the HELOC? Hope this all makes sense. This is actually the first person I've come across that's done something similar to my plan.

Thank you

@Catherine Fernando

Welcome, I would still consider myself a newbie as well.  I wish I would've found BP years ago.  It's pretty amazing.

@Kevin Wood

It's definitely the classic problem.  I've actually found a few potentials that I've reached out to that were referred to me from another BP member.  We shall see! Thanks again.

@Michael Noto

I will be searching for a lender that specializes in first time home buying clients today just incase the ones I found won't work out.  Thanks a lot!
