Zach,

Welcome to BP.  I'm a little biased but think you should probably just stay in SA because it's an awesome city!  If I were you prior to moving I would read and follow everything I can on New Haven.  On BP you can set up a keyword notification so that you can always be involved in what is going on there in the bigger pockets space (this may require a pro membership, but its worth it).

Additionally, if you are planning on renting when you move there and buying later on, I would find some meet ups in the area.  In the meantime I would come to some of the meet ups in SA, because you will be able to meet people who are familiar with what you want to do and will be able to learn a lot.

If I can be a resource, let me know.

Sevan,

This thread is a good resource for understanding the SA market and what strategies work in what areas.

I believe you can set it up through SABOR but would have to pay their annual or quarterly fees

Rolanda, welcome to BP! There are a lot of San Antonio folks pretty active around here.  I’d recommend hitting up some of local meetups.  They are great places to network and learn.  Let me know if there is anything I can do to help!

I was hoping to get some thoughts on buying in flood zones in and around the San Antonio area

-Is this something to stay away from?

-What issues/concerns should I be aware of?

-Other thoughts/concerns/experience

Thanks for the insight!

Aldeshon,

Welcome to BP! I could connect you to some lenders to work with, who can at the very least outline a path for you to get approved in the future.

I’d also recommend getting involved in some of the local meetups, there are some good folks and good meetups around SA.

Let me know if I can help!

Welcome Johann!

I like where you’re headed, I wish I would have started at 24.  I also have a background in oil and gas in SA and am now a real estate agent. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime.

Have you considered making it a short term rental?
