Additional Dwelling Units (ADU)

Andrew Chime
Posted

How are investors feeling about adding an ADU on their properties? Or current homeowners that would want to add an ADU to their property?

Storage Container homes will be great options to add to existing properties.

It's Accessory Dwelling Units. They're a great idea if the zoning works and the numbers$$ work. How can we look at your product?

My HOA would not allow it.

Don't know if I'd want that on my property if I could do it. Like some distance from tenants and guests.

I think this depends on your market and the property itself.

Make sure you check state laws that these are legal. I know in tennessee these types of things can not be legally occupied for living.

I get this question so often and while I personally love the theory it is so specific to a market.  In TN for example(in most areas with zoning laws) the DADU must be minimum 300sf and max of 700sf, must match the style and appearance of the main structure, minimum lot size of X, and so on. All for a good reason. I'm a fan of ADUs, but only if its done properly.

@Andrew Chime, let's put the selling of services and stuff over in the classifieds section.

Accessory homes are a powerful tool that can help lower to mid-income individuals buy and keep a home. And with the housing crisis, Anchorage just loosened regulations to use them as rentals.
