I know that the question of "Should I get my real estate license" has been asked hundreds of times on Bigger pockets, but I wanted to ask if there would be any benefit for a real estate broker/agent to also hold an NMLS license (Mortgage broker license).

Currently I am mid way through with my classes to obtain an Illinois real estate license, and my expectation is to add extra capital to my investment fund by working as a broker part time outside my regular job. 

If they had hired a real contractor, a licensed electrician and a master plumber I'm sure the cost would been at least 5 to 10 times higher to do the work, it would have been done right, but they wouldn't have made any money on their flip.

Didn't now exactly how a license would help me at the time, but figured it couldn't hurt!

The reason behind this is most private money lenders are not licensed to lend on single family properties.

Is it simply getting a real estate license and submitting an application or is it more involved?

There's been many a post written on BP on hiring contractors and doing your due diligence, the least of which starts with going to the Contractors Board website for your state and seeing if they are indeed licensed, and bonded.
