I know that they are building a ton out there and they are trying to stimulate economy there and capitalize on tourism based on the below article.  

And a state like Florida - which is an amazing and growing state - is also a more finicky state since some of the bigger industries are related to tourism and foreign buyers, which is tied directly into the economy (which is one of the reasons it was hit so hard during the last downcycle).

Is tourism a big part of the economy? 

My opinion is that there's not much industry in Galveston, it's major economy is tourism, and it's not great tourism.

I find that economies that thrive on STR revenue and tourism have some form of restrictions but there is balance.

It's a great country emerging from years of civil war and with a fast tourism industry.

Short term rentals are a great option in our area, a large portion of our economy is based on tourism, I've worked with a few investors to buy local condos and SFR for STR.  

This is a major bummer for many investors and vacationers alike.As a Bay Area resident who frequently visits the Tahoe area I can assure you I am taking my tourism dollars to North Lake and other surrounding areas.

She's basically gambling that this will vastly increase tourism locally (and our downtown is doing stuff to help this as well) and is investing differently based on this.

It’s interesting that you’re talking about a non-vacation property in a market that is so tourism dependent.
