My husband and I are the employers and we have employees in our plan with their own accounts.

I’d look at it another way figure out where you want to live and than figure out if house hacking is a way to afford that area and if you have a long term plan to afford that place with at most one roommate, you will find it hard to break even much less make money house hacking anywhere in the region so may as well buy in a place you want to be long term, if your not ready to commit at least medium term, rent.

If you wanted to work with a developer/builder, I would think with our engineering backgroud, you should be able to be a project manager, forward planning, even acquistions associate, albeit with some training. 

Also since equity lines are typically interest only would provide lower carrying costs during planning and construction.

But…..to be fair, he knew what the work entailed, he set the price with no counter from myself, and it went to plan.

I plan on managing these units myself.
