He told us he does not use the dishwasher in the home.It is my understanding that if a dishwasher goes for an extended period without use, elements within it can 'dry out' and the dishwasher will require repair.

You can also dissolve some in water and spray under furniture cushions etc (it'll leave white residue when dry so don't go crazy with it).
