@James K.You are correct with regards to the origin, I visit my family in Mexicali often and they introduce me to several local markets with some interesting spices.

Our lease states that we will be conducting quarterly property visits.  

Visit yard sales in the neighborhood and get to know more people if that is going to be your farm for the next 6 months.

If a contractor is charging 10% markup to assure he has the right materials on site at all times and you are not going to be there 3 times a day it probably makes sense to go that route.The building supply shops usually specialize in certain trades, where you are going to be all over the map with little projects of each.

I don't see us living on the east coast again because it is just too good out hear year round but I like the numbers and it is a nice place to visit.
