Investing effort and time in learning high payoff skillsets where risk can be hedged to a large degree is also a key area to focus on if your goal is to be wealthy and specialize rather than diversifying.  

You prove it can be done with out a "standard- college degree" that is another thing people say, "Go to college- it will open doors." or something along those lines, but what it really does is pile on the debt.

I agree with @Damon Duperre, if you have other options - take them.There's too many degrees of uncertainty with the "over seas" applicant.
