@Dave Dunaway if you are in the city limits you need to work with permitting...you need a plan and have to get that plan approved...depending on the scope of the project, you could require an architect for the design and permitting...if this is just a SFR one-off project you don't need the formality... the bottom line is that you need egress....usually an egress window.You will bump up against fire codes here as well.https://www.columbus.gov/bzs/p...

I've been working deligently with a architect drawer and a landscape designer and have submitted dimensions and site layout drawings, floor plans, along with a permit to build and a permit to build an ADU in the back of my property following all of their setback and distance to primary home, which is a duplex with two units and has been rented since 2014.

Maybe you can find some drawings of layout in old flyers or online.If planning has digital copies they won't give them to you as they belong to architect and owner of record.

I know it depends on many factors and variables such as how well an architect can work with City (how many plan revisions), if there’s other engineer reports required, and how competent of the GC etc.
