For a great tenant, I would've probably gave her $100 a month as a goodwill gesture but she was a not so good inherited tenant. 

Nowadays it is often not only difficult getting a technician new refrigerators can be hard to find (and getting one delivered can take days).As a kindly landlord gesture it would have been nice to drop off a couple of those foam coolers and a couple of bags of ice to tide the tenant over until the frig could be fixed.  

I doubt that it will do any harm but do not see that there is any significant potential for return from the gesture. 

"Thanks, this one is on me" is a small gesture that shows appreciation.

However, I do appreciate the thought and gesture.

Yeah good point, it's a nice gesture, folks are paying a bunch for your place, it's good will to leave plenty available.What about paper towels?

You attempting to be a good person or provide a nice gesture may be seen in court as an admittance of guilt.

They appreciate the gesture and it helps keep them happy and long-term.
