I am only an hour from Manhattan and have a pretty good network of people in the general area. 

Well, that apartment is located at the Strathmore Apartments, 404 Riverside Drive, on the swanky westside of Manhattan.

If your in the Manhattan Beach area, that is a large enough market that you should be able to get some market info from commercial brokers.

Even now, I can't afford to flip in Manhattan, but I can in NJ and Long Island.

Plenty of people live in apartments in upscale Manhattan buildings paying pennies when comparing market rent to the exact unit. 

Live in South Florida but moved from CA a few months back and working a job in Manhattan - so paying taxes everywhere.

There is actually a biggerpockets Manhattan meetup going on tomorrow hosted by @Darren Sager On a side note I've been looking at property in the Newburgh area on the REO site, there very affordable, crime up there may not be as bad as some of the stats indicate....

With the insane market here in NYC, I see small 1/1 condos as far away from Manhattan as Staten Island going for 300K+.
