Uber would be a functional work-around if needed, but for me the convenience of owning the extra car is worth the several hundred $ per year for insurance & registration.

From what I see most people dont know what their house is worth like they dont know what their car is worth or the price of tea in China so someone still has to call to find out how much this stuff is.  

A large income only gets you so far.As Cash said ... a brand new car is one of the worst investments you can make.
