For example, if you were to use an unlicensed handyman that made a poor repair, if at some point in the future it is discovered due to a new issue, you could be responsible to tear it all out and correct the handyman's work.

Aside from pointing out again what @Don Konipol stated (licensed brokers can not legally pay referral fees or commission splits with unlicensed parties or risk losing their own license), why would a licensed broker need you to find then a deal unless you own the deal and are willing to sell?

Of course, you need to "test" them yourself before blindly taking their recommendations, but it is a better starting point than using unlicensed people, or the cheapest guy and his truck that you can find.
