I am actually a real estate agent for a new home builder as my day job too. hahaBut there are few meet ups around the central valley, I have never been personally but if you download the meetup app you can find some local REI events.

I used the numbers I was given and plug them into an app I downloaded.

If you don't have a lot of money to invest every month and don't want the little money you are trying to invest get eaten by trading fees(even though they are usually less than $10/trade), I recommend using the Robinhood app.
