What area's are you looking to invest in? 

If you plan on living in NY invest in NY.... @Llewelyn A. has a great story of a friend who invested out of state and got out priced of the city because his rent kept going up but his investment didn't keep up..Your father is also right closer to home you can tackle problems and learn...

There are also programs you can get into and area's you can invest in other then downtown, bedsty, williamsburg ect. where you can still do pretty good...

What is your strategy???

That will give a better understanding and a plan as to how to go about it...

I have not seen anything in the worst area's of the city not even in the Bronx....
