They are covering the smoke damage but not the oil burner due to not knowing the cause of loss. The oil burner was sent to a 3rd party to determine the cause of loss.

I had recently purchased a home and with in less than a week my oil burner stop working on me. I walked into the house and the house was filled with heavy oil smoke. Now my insurance company (USAA) is telling me that they can't cover it because no one know the cause of loss. I had to sent the actual machine to be inspected by a 3rd party before my insurance company can make a decision. The true question is, how can I get them to cover this type of loss?

My wife and I are planning on filing our taxes soon. We currently live at our owner occupied multi family and put in a lot of money into it this past year. We're looking to maximize our return. My question is, are we better off filing married jointly or filing married separately? Does this make a difference in the amount of return we get?

My wife and I are currently looking in the same situation in Massachusetts. We found someone who can help us with de-leading through state programs but we are currently waiting on a response. I can let you know once I have more answers.
The paint is peeling! We are currently looking at Massachusetts de-leading programs. Just waiting to receive a call bag from a non profit organization that deals with this kind of issue.
Does any one have any experience with lead paint in their apartment. My wife and I discovered that we have lead paint in a bedroom and excepting them in other bedrooms. We knew there was a high chance that we were going to walk into this. Anyone know the proper steps and cost affective way to delead? Please help!
Thanks for the feedback guys! We're sticking to our currently closing date.
The VA loan had been giving my wife and I the run around. We went from closing on the 20th of January and now to closing on the 24th after one more paper work goes through. Should we wait to close on Feb 1st? If we close on the 1st we skip two months of mortgage which would buy us time to earn more income after we leave our owner occupied rental. The down side of this is that we will lose our rate of 4.0percent.I'm not sure if there are any other pros and cons. Please help?
