I am looking at a home built in 1900 for buy and hold. I would like to know, what are the dangers of buying a home that was built that old. The home looks in good condition. One thing I observed is that the steps of the stairs are very small, I mean height and depth. Not sure, if there are any rental codes that this home have issues with. Thanks, Venkatesh

I looked at a home built in 1950s and would like to offer for buy and hold, but have concern. The home looks good, but has structural damage in the basement. It is a ranch home and the basement walls have a horizontal crack with a bow shape in the middle by 1-2 inches from vertical. This is in all the 3 sides of the basement. Some places it has staircase shape cracks. I would like to know, if any one has experience or knowledge in buying and fixing this kind of structural damage with out any issues later Or is it a concern and need to move away from this kind of homes. Appreciate experts suggestions

Thanks,

Venkatesh
