Hi DeAnthony,

Congrats on starting your real estate investing journey!!  I'd suggest going to some local real estate meetups to meet other investors and see who they recommend to use as an agent in your area.  Plus, it's always great to see how other people are finding investing success in your town!

You could also find an agent by going to biggerpockets.com > Network (in the top ribbon) > Real Estate Agents and filtering by your zip code.  Finding an investor-friendly agent through BiggerPockets will be an incredible help as you start your journey!

Hi Timothy - Ocean View is a GREAT area to invest in!!  There are tons of meetups in the area.  My team hosts one every month, but you'll be able to see a full list of events if you go to BiggerPockets.com > Network (in the top ribbon) > Events.  You'll be able to check out everything going on in Hampton Roads!

Hi Michael,  This is totally up to you, but I'd HIGHLY suggest finding an agent to represent you as a buyer.  You can call the listing agent for the property, but just know that their primary focus is to represent the seller and their best interest.  Having an agent on your side would give you your own representation throughout the transaction.

If you'd like to move forward without an agent anyway, you could ask the listing agent when they'd like to close on the property, any known repairs that need to be made, and general condition of the home.

Hi Zach, Welcome to the world of REI!! I'm not in Dallas, but you should definitely try going to a few meetups in your area to meet some investors in-person. If you go to BiggerPockets.com > Network (in the top ribbons) >and then click events, you'll be able to find meetups in your area!

Best of luck on your first deal!  It's going to be great!

I totally agree with Nathan here!  I'm a newbie myself, but I've also had a lot of luck by being active in BiggerPockets Forums.  If you're open to working with other investors, this is a great place to find them!

Hi Avery,

Congrats on deciding to start investing in real estate!  I'd recommend starting with the BiggerPockets books.  They have a plethora of information to help give you a solid foundation of knowledge to get started.

I'd also highly recommend attending a few local meetups in your area with other investors.  Meeting other people who are already successful will help you a million times over.

Best wishes to you!

I'm not in the area, but try going to BiggerPockets.com > Network (in the top ribbon) > Events and you'll be able to see all the local events near you by zip code. It's a great way to build a local network and grab advice from folks in your area on how they've been able to find success!
