We're new to the world of real estate investing and are currently working on finding pre-approvals from local banks or hard money lenders in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area.  We have about 16k saved that we'd like to invest into a few flips within the next year.  Then, use the money from the flips for a down payment on a large multi-unit for passive income.  

Do you have any favorite local lenders that you'd recommend?  I'm working with One Point National Bank now, but I'd love to branch out to see what other lenders have to offer in the area before nailing in a deal.

Are there any other financing avenues we should take a look into? 

Hi Shannon!  Welcome to the newbie crew!  I'm still reading and working on researching a first deal too.  Outside of the BP books and podcasts, I definitely recommend Rich Dad Poor Dad.  It isn't specific to real estate, but it helps you really understand why investing is such a great way to go.  It helps me hold on to the reasons I'm interested in the first place and keeps me motivated to escape the rat race!

I stumbled upon real estate investing via YouTube and have recently become obsessed with the idea of turning my savings account into a money making machine (like many others).  I've been soaking in quite a bit of knowledge through BiggerPockets Podcasts, Books, Videos, etc. Now I'm starting to finally take action and am hoping to learn from the BiggerPockets online community as my partner and I take on this new journey.
