Two identical twin brothers walk into a bar. They both notice a beautiful girl sitting at the bar and one brother goes up to her and asks. "May I buy you a drink". Politely the girl says no thank you and the brother walks away.

After a while he heads to the bathroom and when he returns to the bar he notices his brother siting with the same girl and laughing and having fun, drinking the night away.

Next day the first brother asks his twin. "What did you say to her?"

Brother replied. I asked her if I could buy her a drink.

I know Lotto is gambling but as James Vermillion pointed out he bets on horses occasionally. Well that takes skill to know which horse to pick who is the jockey etc. Poker takes skill too, but my friends attitude is"While I'm working at my goals I will play the Lotto and if it hits I'm done". It's his back up plan.

Doesn't that go against the "Burn the ships at sea" mentality? In general shouldn't one be fixated on their ultimate goal?

Shouldn't one say "I'm going to make this happen no matter what"
