I think if it was an agent that was easy to work with that its a great ideal to send over a gift. What's a couple of dollars for building a good business relationship while I'm a newer agent I find that a lot of agents don't really treat the job as well as they should or at least know the very basics of doing the job.

JOAN DICKIE Thank you, yes I will be at the same company that I've worked as a leasing agent as for the last two years.

@Valerie Hodge

Best of luck to you as well it might take some time but if you can think like a lawyer it will help in trying to understand the information a little quicker.

The self study might be a better option then since you have a heavy workload. the place i went through was Sure Win INC phil was very helpful and was pretty fast to get back to me when i had any questions.

@Sunny Burns

Did you end up taking the family or tell both no and kept on looking?

@Valerie Hodge

I would take a week long course if they have one this will prepare you the best to pass the test since you will be in front of an instructor and able to ask questions to further explain things. i know there are some classes that go a couple of days a week for 6-8 weeks but with the amount of information to take in i personally believe it's better to get it all done quickly if your time allows.

I would like to think i pick up information pretty easily but after taking about 2 months to finish the process over here in illinois doing a self study class. I have also been working as a leasing agent in the city for the last two years so i was somewhat familiar with the regulations. When I did the week long class in michigan it only took me two weeks from start to finish never having any experience.

One thing i would highly recommend is a program called Exam Smart after passing the class test this really helped me pass both state exams on the first try. I did all of the practice questions then kept taking the practice test until i could get at least a 85 or higher to make sure i felt confident while taking the real thing. when you do take the state test DONT check you answers because at this point you will either know the answer or not and could possibly change to many and fail.

Good luck with studying

@Chris Thome

Welcome to the city and to biggerpockets. This like many others have said a great place to gather a lot of knowledge about real estate as a whole. What part of the city are you living in?

Glad to be finished with the studying since i have gotten my illinois and michigan sales license pretty much back to back wasn't planned this way just the way that life had went over the last few months.

I have a couple possible contacts that i have been working with that will hopefully work out to give me more experience. Now the real work / learning begins can't wait to see what the next couple of months have in store.

@Keith Gunter

Welcome to the website best advice i can give would be to set up some keyword searches on some topics that you would be interested in learning about. There are so many knowledgeable people on this website like @Lumi Ispas and many others to meet and learn from.

What part of the city are from or possibly looking to invest in ?  there is a meet up next thursday that is hosted by @Brie Schmidt that is really good and i have started to make some great connections from the last two times that i have been there. The address of the meetup is 7004 w higgins at dino's pizza at 6:30pm.

Here is the link to forum post for the meet up https://www.biggerpockets.com/forums/521/topics/275485-chicago-meetup-2-16
