The funds have provided a bit of excitement the past few weeks, but I'm only 60 so I can't go to all fixed income stuff yet.

My % of mortgages is a bit lower than normal as I've had a few people sell or refinance in the last year. It's usually up around 30% but haven't seen any "deals" since last April.

all cash

Hmm... I wonder what the "RE net worth" is for others.

Stocks are just mind-boggling. If I had to pick a few stocks, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Whoa, I just got settled here in Tokyo about a week ago. I guess I'm a new investor in personal happiness until I get back next year.

btw, a little off-topic here, but the RE here is like San Francisco in price and half the size.

I was baffled on how they were doing it, but then I watched them closely. They play amazing unselfish basketball. They only take good shots and play solid defense... even against Kobe Bryant. I hope they beat the 33(?) in a row!

p.s. Go Chicago Bulls

Bear Stearns was trading at $70 last Monday. Now its worth $2? A 97% drop in one week? That puts the dot com crash to shame.

What are the practical effects? Does this mean all these CDOs/SIVs/etc really worth so little a huge company like Bear Stearns is actually worth almost nothing?

Will there be a lock-down on REOs and no offers will be accepted? Or, are we about to see a bloodbath, and banks will take anything anyone offers?

Jon

I'm also wondering this ...

I also play with subpenny stocks. These are fun! I buy 10 Million shares at .0001 cents per share...lol What's great is they truly can't go down unless they do a reverse split. Actually made a 150% return last year when the price went up to .0003 cents per share and I sold a lot. Then a month later they did a 200/1 reverse stock split and whatever I didn't sell became worthless....lol

haha, I didn't even know anything below a penny per share existed.

A few tips I've gotten from these forums:

-find deals usually an hour or two outside a major city
-look where grocery stores are being built

Keep reading the threads here, they have a plethora of great tips that may work for you.

p.s. instead of driving around an area, does anyone know a website where it tells us what businesses are under construction?

Thanks for your replies.

I do feel investing my money in actual quality courses is good enough rather than spend it at a university, especially after researching enough and seeing the whole picture.

What about the option to see "sold" properties within the past ___ ? Are these numbers as reliable as the home zestimates?

My guess is a person who has *rights* to a land. In developmental terms, it may be when the developer has all costs paid for building a property. I might be wrong, so lets have someone else elaborate.
