@Rachel Goldberg I agree with Craig and Jacob. OTR has some great streets but some are still pretty dangerous at night. Prices have been going up a lot in the area since there is a lot of bigger development companies building condos in the area, although seeing that you are from New York City, rising prices in Cincinnati might still be reasonable compared to NYC :)

@Tom Evans

Hey Tom, I'm sure you got your answer by now but figured I'd still throw this out there. I work for State Farm in Northern Ky but am fairly familiar with Ohio. You should be able to easily get an umbrella policy from a major Company like State Farm, starting at 1 million. They do have certain stipulations though. For example, if you want your auto policies to be covered under the umbrella, you have to have auto liability coverage of at least 250,000/500,000. any local agent should be able to help you.

welcome @Derek Hardin . northern ky is a great area to get started in. If you ever need help with the insurance side of investing, I work for State Farm in Erlanger and would be happy to assist.

Congrats! I've been looking for my first property in Cincinnati as well. Very interested to hear how it goes in Madisonville, I've looked around there but don't know that area at all.

Hey BP'ers This isn't an investment question but more on how do I get into the commercial real estate industry? As in working for a CRE firm. I'm 2 years out of school and work as a tax accountant.but have quickly realized I do not want a future in accounting. I have always had a strong interest in real estate and would like to make the career switch to commercial real estate. Are there any CRE professionals out there that could give me some advice on how to get my foot in the door with a firm? Even though I have no formal real estate training or experience. Thanks Kevin

interesting article about the City of Cincinnati's plan to buy up 40 homes in Evanston to rehab. Up to now, its mainly low income housing rental properties, but maybe this will help investing there in the future.
