Becoming commercial real estate agent/associate

Hey BP'ers This isn't an investment question but more on how do I get into the commercial real estate industry? As in working for a CRE firm. I'm 2 years out of school and work as a tax accountant.but have quickly realized I do not want a future in accounting. I have always had a strong interest in real estate and would like to make the career switch to commercial real estate. Are there any CRE professionals out there that could give me some advice on how to get my foot in the door with a firm? Even though I have no formal real estate training or experience. Thanks Kevin

call all the major commercial Brokerage companies in your area (CB, Colliers, Newmark, Cushman etc). They all either have training programs or can use interns or researchers to start. Be prepared to work for commissions only and make sure to have a year or two of income saved up. Dont take no for an answer, insist on at least an interview. If the office manager wont interview you then call the top brokers directly and ask them for 10 minutes of their time or offer to take them to lunch or to a coffee. I owned a large commercial brokerage company for over 20 years and this is what I liked to see. It shows you have initiative and are aggressive. Good luck!
